Important Notice for Existing Users
If you previously used Aspera Connect, please be aware that it is no longer supported by Aspera and has reached end of life.
VIDA has now fully migrated to the Aspera Desktop App.
From March 31st 2026, VIDA will no longer support downloads or uploads using Aspera Connect.
To continue transferring files, you must install the Aspera Desktop App.
Why Aspera?
VIDA uses Aspera transfers for downloads and uploads.
This provides a faster, more secure, and more stable transfer method compared to standard HTTPS downloading.
You may have been redirected to this page after seeing a pop-up advising you to install Aspera Desktop. Please follow the steps below to get set up.

1. Download & Install Aspera Desktop
To get started, download the installer directly from IBM Aspera:
Click here to download Aspera Desktop
Once installed, the app is ready to use. No additional configuration is required.
2. Using Aspera with VIDA
When you upload or download content in VIDA:
The Aspera Desktop App will automatically launch.
For uploads, you will be prompted to select the file(s) you want to send.
For downloads, the transfer will begin immediately.
You can view progress and transfer details through the Transfer Monitor.
3. Adjusting Aspera Settings
By default, Aspera Desktop saves downloaded files to your system’s Downloads folder.
If you have limited storage or prefer a different folder:
Open Aspera Desktop
Go to Preferences
Select the Transfers tab
Here, you can:
Change the default download location
Set Aspera to ask for a location each time you start a download
Adjust retry settings for failed transfers
Configure how many concurrent transfers Aspera is allowed to run at once

4. Resolving the “Multi-Session Support Is Disabled” Error
Resolving the “Multi-Session Support Is Disabled” Error
Some users may encounter the following error when attempting a transfer:
“Error: Server aborted session: Multi-session support is disabled.”
If this appears:
Open Aspera Desktop.
Go to Preferences > Transfers.
Locate the Enable multi-session setting.
Ensure that Enable multi-session is unticked.
Return to the transfer window and select Retry.
Once multi-session is disabled, your transfer should resume normally.
