Launchpad: Duplicate Defender

Duplicate Defender helps you spot when a file uploaded to Launchpad already exists in the system. It’s a simple way to avoid unnecessary duplicates and make sure you’re working with the correct version of your files.

How It Works

  • Every file uploaded to Launchpad is scanned and assigned a unique MD5 hash (a digital fingerprint).

  • If another file already has the same fingerprint, it means the two files are identical, even if the filenames differ.

  • Launchpad then flags the file with a Duplicates pill in the Upload view.

What the Pills Mean

  • Green – Unique

    • No duplicates found. This file is the only one of its kind in the system.

  • Yellow – Warning

    • A possible duplicate exists. Review carefully — the file may be intentional (e.g., end credits delivered for multiple episodes) or an error (e.g., the same closed caption file uploaded under a different name).

Turning On the Duplicates Pill

  • Go to your  package view.

  • Use the cog wheel in the top-right corner of the asset table.

  • Enable the Duplicates pill column.

  • Click save

  • You’ll now see whether each uploaded file is marked as Unique or flagged as a Warning.

Why This Matters

  • Keeps your deliveries clean and organized.

  • Prevents confusion caused by multiple copies of the same file.

  • Helps spot errors early — such as a vendor re-uploading the same file with a different filename.

What To Do If You See a Duplicate Warning

  • Check the file purpose: Some duplicates are valid (like standard assets delivered across multiple packages).

  • Investigate unexpected duplicates: If the file looks suspicious, check with the supplier or request a redelivery if needed.

  • Approve or reject the file as part of your normal Launchpad workflow.
